I dunno why I’m posting this. I guess I feel like a rant.
There’s a lil bit of drama going around at the moment concerning a discussion that Gavin and Geoff had during the latest Let’s Build (Portal House). Essentially, on their way to work they would spot a hot chick and follow her in the car until they spotted another hot chick, at which point they would follow her. They do this until they turn up at the office.
Initially, I thought this was the funniest fucking idea ever. I even suggested that me and my friend should give it a go next time we went driving together. Only we’d do it with men because, y’know, we’re straight girls (well, I am. My friend is a dude).
When the backlash began to emerge I thought. “Fuck, maybe I was wrong to laugh.” After all, I’m a girl who stands for women’s rights and has suffered at the hands of patriarchy and the ‘alpha’ male complex before. Was I wrong to laugh? Was I betraying womankind? Was I betraying the work that my suffragette sisters put into achieving equality?
Fuck no. What they did was creepy. What they did might have scared some women who were followed. But, to be honest, the image of Gavin in the front seat of a car squealing and squirming, telling Geoff to “JUST DRIVE” is just too funny.
We all know it’s a joke. We all know that they would never hurt anyone. We all know that they would NEVER wish harm on a woman because she is a woman.
The over-reaction to this drama is staggering. And soon it will be forgotten. Again, speaking as a woman, they’re just men being men. Silly, childish and looking for da ladiez.
How about we focus on the injustices of forced, child marriages and the recent case of an 8 year old girl who died on her wedding night following a forced sexual encounter with her middle-aged husband?
No? A joke between two friends is more important? Oh, my mistake.
TL;DR - There are bigger and more horrible injustices in the world than this. Let’s get pissed at forced, child marriages, rape to cure AIDs and female genital mutilation instead.
1. You know they wouldn’t do anything bad. I know. Everyone discussing this on tumblr knows.
You know who wouldn’t know? The women they are following down the street in a “creepy pace”.
2.’Speaking as a woman’
Nope. You being okay with this does not give you any right to invalidate other peoples fears.
3. Silly, childish and looking for da ladiez.
Ouch. They are grown ass adults. Not one-dimensional sit-com characters. their actions have consequences, and as adults, they have to acknowledge that.
4. It’s funny, so it’s cool
You are forgetting the victims of this.
Sure, there are bigger issues in the world. But you can’t rank issues and then just respond to the biggest, otherwise the only crime that mattered would be straight up murder.
i’d also like to ask in what other mythical land elsewhere these bigger issues always seem to happen.
because no, i’m not going to focus on corrective assault and fgm when there is something right here that affects me directly.
did you honestly just try to justify what they did by saying that they’re just being men?
you CANNOT KNOW that someone will never hurt a woman for being a woman. that is impossible. (yet you claim to know exactly how these men think from watching their podcasts. that’s almost as mythical and mysterious as bigger-problems-land.)
it’s NOT okay, and it’s NOT just a joke when they are talking about harassing and stalking women as something casual and funny on a podcast with millions of viewers. not okay. never okay. these games and jokes are what is known as a microaggression. that is one way that the normalisation and trivialisation of various kinds of assaults, stalking and other abuses happens and you need to understand that.
you don’t get to freely claim that you’re a girl who stands for women’s rights if you can’t see what’s wrong with this. asking people to ignore this because it was just a game would nearly be laughable if there weren’t women out there being traumatised every day because people are thinking this is an okay thing to do because it’s just a joke.
Loved these two together.
Until the end. When I ugly-sobbed. A lot.
Too much truth here. Technology has made us even quicker to judge. Is it just to make ourselves feel superior? I’m not sure but it is true we tend to see the negative and almost fall over ourselves in a race to criticise. :(
And that’s the most frustrating thing about depression. It isn’t always something you can fight back against with hope. It isn’t even something — it’s nothing. And you can’t combat nothing. You can’t fill it up. You can’t cover it. It’s just there, pulling the meaning out of everything. That being the case, all the hopeful, proactive solutions start to sound completely insane in contrast to the scope of the problem.
It would be like having a bunch of dead fish, but no one around you will acknowledge that the fish are dead. Instead, they offer to help you look for the fish or try to help you figure out why they disappeared.
You know when you read something that’s so accurate that you don’t know how to words?
This was just extremely astute I reread that whole comic like 4 times now.

Mod note that you can feel free to delete when reblogging:
This headcanon was submitted way before ME3 was released, I think it was right when the first few real trailers came out.
(Also, right now I’m just posting the headcanons that people have already made images for because I am still at work, and I have nothing to do right now)
People who screech left and right that one book is a rip-off of another.
People who say Divergent sucks because its a rip-off of The Hunger Games.
